2010 BLS Healthcare Provider Course

Certified through American Heart Association (AHA)

Course Description
The BLS Healthcare Provider Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. The course is intended for certified or noncertified, licensed or nonlicensed healthcare professionals.

Intended Audience
Healthcare providers such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician's assistants, residents or fellows, or medical or nursing students in training, aides, medical or nursing assistants, police officers, and other allied health personnel.


*This course can be taken by anyone including teachers, personal trainers, coaches etc. and will satisfy their certification requirements.

**This course is the certification required for all health professionals.


Heartsaver CPR Course

Certified through American Heart Association (AHA)

Designed for the lay rescuer who requires a credential for course completion, the course covers emergency resuscitation techniques, prevention, and use of barrier devices.

The Heartsaver CPR course trains lay rescuers to recognize and treat life-threatening emergencies with adult, child, and infant victims.

Bloodborne Pathogens awareness

This program includes information that will help students understand what bloodborne pathogens are and how risks of exposure can be reduced for themselves and others. The program assists in satisfying the training requirements of the U.S. Department of Labor, OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard.

Emergency Oxygen Administration

This is a critical step in treating a severe or life-threatening illness or injury. This program focuses on administering emergency oxygen, rescue breathing and oxygen delivery devices.

Basic First Aid

In this program participants learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of injuries and sudden illness. Crucial information about how to deal with emergencies like bleeding,shock, burns, strains, fractures, allergic reaction, diabetic and seizures is shared.


Pet First Aid

Course is in the immediate care given to an injured or suddenly ill pet as temporary assistance until competent veterinary care is available. Properly applied first aid can save your pet’s life, reduce recovery time and be the difference between temporary disability and lifelong disability. This program concentrates on basic first aid care. It is not intended to replace veterinary care, but rather to instruct the pet owner on how to save a pet’s life during an emergency or to minimize a pet’s trauma after an injury.

Disaster Preparedness


Throughout time mankind has been dealing with the threat of disaster. Disasters come in two forms, natural or manmade. Sometimes disasters can strike without warning. Your only defense is your ability to be prepared.

The Disaster Preparedness program helps you to prepare for a disaster and devise a strategy that encompasses the necessary steps that must be taken before, during and after a disaster.


First Responder

Brady Prentice Hall Health publishes the best-selling First Responder book on the market – First Responder by J. David Bergeron and Gloria Bizjak. Another approved book is Mosby’s Emergency First Responder: Making the Difference by Will Chapleau, EMT-P, RN, TNS. Both of these textbooks thoroughly cover the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) National Standard Curriculum for First Responders.

 

Wilderness Emergency Care


The Wilderness Emergency Care (WEC) program supports a family of courses to meet the needs of everyone with outdoor interests, from easy day trips to challenging and technical activities, including wilderness rescue. The WEC textbook not only explains the concepts in clear language, it also shows you how to do all the skills, step by step, with many photos and drawings. The WEC Instructor Guide provides course outlines and lesson plans for all the wilderness courses and explains how to plan, prepare for, teach and evaluate a course. It also has a great collection of resources - including quizzes, scenarios for practical exams and evaluation forms.

WEC Family of Courses

Basic Wilderness First Aid is an intensive 8- to 10-hour course for those who are involved in wilderness recreation. This course may also meet the needs of volunteers and professionals who lead groups on short trips in relatively low-risk situations.

Wilderness First Aid is a 16- to 20-hour course for those who are involved in serious wilderness activities. This course is the choice of many wilderness trip leaders and guides.

Wilderness First Responder is a 60- to 80-hour course for wilderness professionals and others who want a higher level of training or require WFR certification.

Wilderness EMT Upgrade is a 40-hour course for those who are already certified as EMTs. The course builds on EMT training and adds wilderness concepts and skills with many role-playing scenarios.
